Newcastle Balustrades grew out of a simple observation: on the coast, the balustrade is where design meets the weather, and getting the material choice right matters as much as the workmanship. Working across the beachside suburbs, the harbour edge and the Lake Macquarie foreshore, we saw how quickly the wrong specification can disappoint a homeowner who was sold on looks alone. So we built the business around honest material advice and clean fabrication, not just the cheapest quote. Over more than a decade we have fitted frameless glass to capture ocean and lake views, marine-grade stainless to stand up to salt air, and restored decorative iron and timber stairs in period terraces. Today we handle everything from a single stair handrail to full custom staircases and strata balustrade contracts. The thread through all of it is the same: the right system, fixed properly, built to the standard.

Steve Smith has spent more than 12 years designing, fabricating and installing balustrades, handrails, staircases and glass pool fencing. He is hands-on from the first measure to the final fix, and he would rather talk you out of a material that will not last in your setting than sell you something that looks good on quote day and tea-stains a year later. That directness, paired with careful fabrication, is what keeps his work standing up in a demanding coastal climate.
We run our own experienced fabrication and installation team rather than subcontracting the work out. The people who cut the glass, weld the stainless and prepare the finishes are the same people who set foot on your site, which keeps the quality consistent from workshop to install. It also means the person fixing your balustrade understands exactly how it was built.

We are fully insured with $20 million in public liability cover, and our work is built to the relevant Australian Standards and the National Construction Code. Glass is selected and installed to AS 1288, pool barriers are built to AS 1926.1, and handrails and barriers are designed and fixed to carry the loads set out in AS 1170. We build to those standards; where a compliance certificate is required for a pool barrier, it is issued by your council or an accredited private certifier.
Choosing us means honest material advice first. We specify marine-grade 316 stainless and quality powder-coated aluminium where the salt air demands it, and we are upfront that even the best coatings and finishes need periodic rinsing and upkeep near the coast. Our quotes are fixed and itemised for the scope agreed, with variations confirmed in writing, so there is no vague pricing. We fabricate with our own team and fix to the correct substrate rather than just bolting on a rail. And every job, from a frameless view balustrade to a full custom staircase, is built to the standard it needs to meet.
