ABOUT US

Reliable Balustrades

Newcastle Balustrades designs, fabricates and installs balustrades, handrails, staircases and glass pool fencing across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the wider Hunter. Led by Steve Smith with more than 12 years in the trade, we match the right material and system to each home, its outlook and its exposure to the coast. Every project is fully insured and built to the relevant Australian Standards.

The Process

Our Simple 3 Step Process

Free measure, quote and design

We visit your property, measure the run and talk through the options that suit the setting, the outlook and the exposure to salt. You get a fixed, itemised quote for the agreed scope, with the material, system and finish set out clearly so you can compare like for like.

Fabricated in our workshop

Once the quote is approved, we fabricate to your measurements in our own workshop. Glass is cut to size and toughened or laminated to suit, stainless and aluminium components are prepared in marine-grade specifications where the coast calls for it, and every part is made to fit your site rather than forced from a standard kit.

Installed and built to standard

Our own team installs on site, fixing to the correct substrate so the barrier carries its designed loads. We build to the relevant Australian Standards and the NCC, including barrier heights, AS 1288 glass and AS 1926.1 for pool fencing. Where a compliance certificate is needed, your council or a private certifier carries out the sign-off.

Balustrades In Newcastle City

FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS

Everything you need to know about our Balustrades In Newcastle City

How do you choose materials that stand up to Newcastle's salt air?

Can you build a compliant glass pool fence?

Yes. We build glass and aluminium pool barriers to AS 1926.1 and the NSW pool-barrier rules, covering the non-climbable zone, self-closing and self-latching gates, and gaps kept under the required limit. What we do not do is issue the compliance certificate: the inspection and sign-off are carried out by your local council or an accredited private certifier. Our job is to build a barrier that is ready for that certification, so we construct it to the standard and leave the formal certifying to the authority. If you are unsure of the current rules for your pool, we are happy to point you in the right direction.

What barrier heights and gaps do balustrades need to meet?

We build to the National Construction Code and the relevant Australian Standards rather than offering legal advice, and we design to those figures from the outset. As a general guide, balconies, decks and landings with a fall over a metre need a barrier of around one metre, stair balustrades sit at roughly 865 millimetres above the nosing line, and openings must not let a 125 millimetre sphere pass through. On higher falls there are also limits on climbable footholds. We confirm the specifics for your site at the measure so the finished barrier is built to what your project needs.

Which areas do you cover?

We work right across Newcastle, Lake Macquarie and the wider Hunter. That includes Newcastle City and the beachside suburbs such as Merewether, along with Hamilton, New Lambton, Charlestown, Kotara, Adamstown, Mayfield and Wallsend. Around Lake Macquarie we cover Cardiff, Warners Bay and Belmont, where lakeside decks, view glass and pool fencing are common. If you are nearby and not sure whether we reach you, give us a call on 0407 204 572 and we will let you know.

Glass Balustrades in Newcastle City

Newcastle Balustrades is based in the city, so Newcastle City is home ground for us. From the harbour-front dwellings and Honeysuckle apartments to the tight terrace streets behind the beaches, we design, fabricate and install balustrades, stairs, handrails and glass pool fencing to suit each property and its exposure. Steve Smith and the team bring 12-plus years to frameless view glass that keeps the harbour outlook, 316 marine-grade stainless for salt-laden air, and compliant barriers built to the NCC and the relevant Australian Standards. We handle strata and commercial common areas as readily as a single home stair. Every job starts with a free, on-site measure and quote, fixed and itemised for the scope agreed. Call 0407 204 572 to talk it through.

Hamilton is one of Newcastle's great heritage pockets, with rows of period terraces and older homes along and around Beaumont Street. That character shapes the balustrade and stair work here: timber staircases to restore, decorative iron to repair or sympathetically replace, and compliant new balustrades where a renovation calls for it. Newcastle Balustrades, led by Steve Smith with 12-plus years behind us, understands the difference between saving an original stair and building a new one to current standards. We fabricate and install stairs, handrails, glass and wire balustrades, and glass pool fencing built to AS 1926.1. Every job begins with a free, on-site measure and quote, fixed and itemised, and we are fully insured with $20 million public liability. Call 0407 204 572 to discuss your Hamilton home.

Merewether is Newcastle's premier beachside suburb, and the salt air off Merewether Beach and the Bathers Way makes material choice the first conversation, not an afterthought. Elevated homes here are built around the ocean view, so we specify frameless and semi-frameless glass to preserve it, 316 marine-grade stainless that stands up to chloride pitting, and glass pool fencing built to AS 1926.1. Newcastle Balustrades, led by Steve Smith with 12-plus years on this coast, gives honest advice on what salt does to each material and how to keep it performing. We fabricate and install view balustrades, stairs, handrails and compliant pool barriers, all backed by a free on-site quote and $20 million public liability insurance. Call 0407 204 572 for beachside Merewether.
